![]() I just can’t see why Dimps would make those enemies indestructible as it really hampers the flow of the level.ĭon’t think the new levels are all bad though – Oil Desert and Sky Fortress are especially enjoyable. One spot with two walruses completely blocking the path is guaranteed to kill players the first time through. Problem: Sonic can’t break the ice they form the baddies are just invincible at that point. They produce giant blocks of ice if you don’t kill or pass them by quickly enough. Not only is it an underwater level (of which there are at least four in this installment, yikes), but the new walrus enemies seem designed specifically to infuriate. But frustrating trial and error bits still pop up now and then – the worst of which occurs in White Park Act 3. The music remains as repetitive and uninspired as Episode I, sadly.Ĭutting into the fun factor a bit, the level design hasn’t improved in any significant way. Also, the graphics have improved significantly, with new light and shadow effects and plenty of parallax providing the requisite eye candy. Surprisingly, the final boss is now a complete pushover, a welcome relief after the tough Metal Sonic race preceding him (or the annoying last battle of Episode I). The bosses are much larger, more original, and fun to fight this time around. Sonic’s movement physics are now much closer to the original games, restoring the sense of weight and momentum we all missed in the last installment. I still enjoyed it as a platformer regardless, but not everyone felt the same way.īefore we talk about Episode II’s new additions, let’s see how it stacks up against those old complaints. This back-to-basics approach didn’t quite ring true with many Genesis fans for a few reasons: awkward movement physics for Sonic, largely mediocre level design, and lackluster chiptunes music courtesy of Sonic & Knuckles composer Jun Senoue. Story sequences, which have been a big part of the series since 1999’s Sonic Adventure, were completely absent. Zones and bosses were all based on those of the Genesis games. Though it doesn’t quite recapture all of the Genesis-era magic (a nearly impossible task), Episode II successfully improves on many of the first Sonic 4’s faults while adding the best co-op play the series has ever seen.Ī quick recap of Episode I: the game spanned four zones with three acts a piece, plus five bosses. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, the newest downloadable Sonic title, wisely draws its inspiration from Sonic 2, attempting to update that classic for the modern era. It also sold heaps of Sega Genesis consoles, because nothing on the Super Nintendo could really match it at the time. With fantastic graphics, terrific level design, and unparalleled soundtrack, cool bonus levels, and even 2-player co-op and versus modes, Sonic 2 had everything you could’ve wanted in a platforming sequel. At worst, said behavior was always there, just more mild back then, and the fanboys just took it with a grain of salt because "it's just a fun show. Many gamers consider Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to be the high point in the series. That LP also contained terrible gameplay, Abel showing more hate for the game, AND him admitting to only saying goods things about the game "for brownie points." At best, the spiteful attitude to those liking the games Alex shits on was adopted shortly afterward and made more serious overtime. One of the YouTube comments in favor of Anthony's words brought up the Super Mario 64 LP and how Anderson here started getting more nervous of dying due to the comments. Archer has already made the strawman of all Sonic fans claiming the game is perfect (believe or not, Andrew, many don't), and he would use that same kind of strawman later on in the 3D Zelda games (even Skyward Sword, despite that being a divisive game).Ĭonsidering the attitudes he had in those LPs, it makes this segment seem even less honest in hindsight. ![]() Because you guys are big YouTubers and, even by this point, a lot of your fans have had a tendency to go along with whatever you say, having those opinions shaped in the process?Īnd then they make a Taco Bell analogy that is clearly making an example of the "This was my childhood you prick" kind of fans. ![]() Why the fuck does our opinion even matter?" Kinda downplayed a bit with Ana immediately saying (a kept seeing comments say that he was joking) about people having a problem for liking Sonic Adventure.ĭan: "Also, we're just two idiots. Gotten to Episode 15 of the Sonic Adventure series (in terms of editing), and.Īt 2:16-4:16, Arnold admits to being hard on Sonic games, and the two go into this talk about how just because they're 'messing around' with crapping on Sonic doesn't make the feelings of fans wrong. ![]()
